the chapel hill skatepark commonly refered to as 'ryans world 2'- this park is shunned by alot of people around the raleigh durham area. lets start the story with ryans world 1, which is the shitiest stupidist park ever built, located here in raleigh since 1998 or so. basically this guy built the park for his son with the paid help of a bunch of carpenters. they knew nothing about ramps and built a bunch of shit. when skaters tried telling this guy how to improve the place, he blew them off. so we never really had a park in raleigh, and then this guy mark steps up, hires team pain, and builds one of the best parks on the east, in raleigh. so now the dipfuck frank (owner of ryans world) is mad and threatens to break marks legs (at the same time his tires are getting slashed and windows broken) for opening another park in 'his town'. he cant even be stoaked the the scene will increase 5 fold with the new park. he goes on talking about being a tuff guy, and trying to close the new park (utopia). so where does chapel hill fit into this? well, chapel hill is like any other yuppy town that doesnt want its curbs scratched and stuff like that. so they banned skating, and then came the 2 year battle for a park. in the mean time, the kids built a bunch of ramps and other obstacles and set them up in the back of a park n ride lot. that was working out as a temporary answer, then someone got hurt... so the city made them tear down every ramp over 4 feet high. slice the fun in half, but it was still something. then the park started coming together and the city didnt want to run it. so they put out a bid for anyone who wanted to run it. in steps frank with a vengence to compete with utopia, and a prebuilt skatepark. all he has to do is collect the $ from the kids. so now the city of chapel hill has banned skateboarding, thrown away all the ramps at park n ride, and makes everyone pay $ to some clusterfuck for a park that the tax payers paid for. doesnt make sense to me, but thats the story from what i know (and i know i dont know it all). so before you patronize this place, beware of the scams behind it. on a lighter note, heres some footage of the abc taping at the park in october of 99. bj_w- melon grab joel- miller flip local- ollie transfer mike sinclair- kickflip 50 50 bj_b- big ollie over the reporter

i cant believe im going to waste my time adding to this, but its going to be part of a book im writing entitled Why are Skakepark Owners so Fucked Up?. dont go on tour and plan on coming to this park. frank gets chris edwards of the D tour to bring his troops over to the chapel hill park on their way outta town. they show up and the park is shut down for the day dont go to a contest here if your planning on winning the $ a contest in which there was suppose to be like $6,000 in prize money ended up giving out about $500. talk about false advertising! dont be in a band thats lined up to play here in a conversation a close friend overheard the owner telling the band standing next to all their equipment they couldnt play, even though he told them before they could. then he walks away mumbling how those guys were assholes. how about this mini? its the only thing that the owner has added and its terrible! look at the kinks in the trannys! a bunch of locals saw this thing being built and tried to tell frank it was going to be terrible. he didnt listen to them, and now the park has the worst skatelite surface mini ever! congrats on being a true stubborn idiot!
