| Partying Instead of Vacating The management of Tacheles has announced that they will not voluntarily vacate the art-house after the deadline of the ultimatum has passed on Friday the 4th of April. As formerly reported, the head finance authorities (OFD), who administer the real estate for the Federal government, have required the artists to clear the building by this time. In the event that this order should not be complied with, the OFD will file an action for eviction at the regional court, a spokesman announced on Thursday. After the deadline has passed on Friday, Tacheles operators plan to pointedly celebrate a big party. The artists once again want to state their demands in a "Berlin Statement". Beyond that, there will be music, exhibitions and film presentations on all floors of the ruin on Oranienburger Strasse in Berlin's Mitte district. Starting at midnight, scene-celebrity Dr. Motte will work the controls and provide for the techno sound. The Tacheles investor, the Cologne-based Fundus group, had offered itself as renovator and sponsor. The management, however, did not feel that their interests were sufficiently being taken into account. |
