tacheles is an artist culture in the middle of berlin. i think it started when some squatters took over a bombed building after the war. according to what i know about german law, that means they legally own the property. so now its many years later and this mecca for art is still growing strong. although half the building is condemned due to damage, the remaining inside area is used for a theatre, living quarters, gallerys, workshops, and a bar and cafe. im sure theres more stuff behind the locked doors.
